Vanilla Undercover: Underpaint with Copic Markers for Beautiful Realism - Blue Curl
Mysterious & Deep Turquoise
Real shade is not darker color, real shade is desaturated color.
To create the desaturated colors that Copic Marker does not make, Vanilla Arts Company teaches Online Workshops and Livestream Coloring Challenges using the underpainting method. Students learn to layer colors realistically rather than blend.
Underpainting creates natural colors found in everyday life.
Blue Curl
Elena’s Advice:
You may not believe this, but I can’t surf.
But I can color and I do love creating colors with my markers. Figuring out how to create a deeper turquoise is as exciting as catching a wave!
It’s really amazing how just one weird marker color, something totally outside the color family marker can create wonderful depth.
This is one of my rare 3 marker combinations, instead of the usual four. You simply don’t need the third in this situation. Start with a base layer of RV04, cover with BG09, and smooth with BG07. Make sure to cover the RV thoroughly each time.
Remember, you need a good coat of each marker to blend these colors!
And patience too. It is important that you remember to give the Copic ink time to blend.
I recommend swatching colors on scrap paper before coloring the image. It’s a great warm up for your coloring session and builds your coloring confidence.
