Vanilla Undercover: Underpaint with Copic Markers for Beautiful Realism - Mallard Green

Add dimension and realism to Copic Marker blends by underpainting with complementary or opposite colors. Real shade isn’t just one step darker than the base color. Real shade is murky and desaturated. | VanillaArts.com | #copicmarker #realisticcolor…

Rich and Luxurious Greens

Real shade is not darker color, real shade is desaturated color.

To create the desaturated colors that Copic Marker does not make, Vanilla Arts Company teaches Online Workshops and Livestream Coloring Challenges using the underpainting method. Students learn to layer colors realistically rather than blend.

Underpainting creates natural colors found in everyday life.

Mallard Green

Elena’s Advice:

When you’re looking for a deep velvety green you won’t find it in your Copic stash. R markers to the rescue!

It may seem strange, but red under green makes a beautifully dark but still green color. Trust me on this (but do try it yourself).

Remember, red is a staining color and when a staining color touches the paper first, it grabs the paper fibers and won’t blend as easily as a blue or gray ink would. Red inks always require more moisture to create a full blend.

I recommend that you swatch colors before coloring your image. It’s a great warm up for your coloring session and builds your coloring confidence.
