Cherry Danish is an original line art digital stamp by me, Amy Shulke of Vanilla Arts Company. I created this project especially for Colored Pencil Magazine but to be honest, that was after years of visiting my local bakery and thinking “I’ve got to make a class out of these danishes!”

This booklet is an expanded version of the free tutorial from the April 2021 edition of Colored Pencil Magazine. The editors limit our tutorials to just eight steps which means I’m forced to gloss over most of the minor, yet still significant steps. I’ve included everything from the original tutorial here and expanded upon the information, to better help you complete the project.

My original danish was colored on Stonehenge White. I started with a base of Copic Marker and added overpainting with Derwent Lightfast Colored Pencils. The powdered sugar was added last with a Posca paint pen.

Not a fan of cherry pastry filling? My center here is just a generic series of lumps and bumps. Change up the color palette to make apple, blueberry, or even lemon! Get creative!
