Tulip Wreath is an original line art digital stamp by me, Amy Shulke of Vanilla Arts Company. Tulips are one of my favorite flowers and it’s just not spring until I see gardens full of them. Unfortunately, I’ve never been able to grow them in my yard; the moles do a pretty good job munching on the bulbs from underground and what they miss, the deer dig up. So I settle for the hand-drawn variety.

One of the reasons why I’ve offered several tulip classes over the years is that tulip line drawings are incredibly flexible. As long as you choose a variety with the same overall shape, you can create endless color versions. This is handy for students looking to practice their color-changing skills.

My original Tulip Wreath was colored on Fabriano Artistico, Extra Fine watercolor paper, hot press in Extra White. There is no watercolor or Copic base; this project is 100% Pablo and Holbein colored pencils. It takes longer to work without a base but sometimes it’s fun to take the leisurely route.

We encourage you to experiment with your own materials and color palettes, this is where your artistry and creativity will shine.

Amy’s stamps are suitable for colored pencil, alcohol markers, pastels, watercolor....get creative!
